After Treebeard saves Merry and Pippin from Grishnákh, an Orc that had followed them when they fled into Fangorn Forest, he brings them to Derndingle where he has called an Entmoot (Meeting) to discuss the news that they have brought. After the Entmoot goes on for hours, Treebeard tells Merry and Pippin that the Ents have chosen to do nothing to help against Saruman. Pippin asks him to take them to the southern edge of the forest where Treebeard discovers that Saruman's Orcs have been cutting down the Forest, which rouses Treebeard and the Ents to action against Saruman.
